Split Fins

Yellow longnose butterfly or flavissimus Forcipiger belong to the family Chaetodontidae. This family consists of 120 species in 10 genera and covers all butteflyfish and bannerfish and coralfish. The habitat of the species extends from the Red Sea through the Indo-Pacific and east of the Hawaiian Islands. They are not so common in Hawaii, but there is a significant population near the island of Maui. This fish is one of the biggest names in the Hawaiian language: The wi-u-li-li wi-nu-nu-ku-ku 'Oi Oi. "Translation is broken up, (LAU) of the leaf, wili wili, (tree), (nu nu-ku-ku) nose ('oi-'oi) long and sharp.

The name itself implies a longnose butterfly fish unique proportions. And that's the case. From the tip of its long snout to the base of the caudal fin, the body of this fish and structure fin is the general shape of a triangle. Their dorsal fins are divided into a series of feathers like projections that are much like a Mohawk. This fish is yellow bright color with a white triangle of her mouth to the bottom of the head and a silver triangle eyes to the top of his head. There is a white spot just below of the pectoral fins. The color palette is more emphasis on black. They have scars around her eyes and just behind the silver triangle with a black eye false " at the top of the anal fin. Its tail fin is typically transparent.

These fish have moderate levels of care and benign attitudes. They make an excellent choice for fans of moderately experienced aquarists. These exotic beauties are a long-time favorite among owners of saltwater aquariums. Mix well with fish of other lovers of peace in a multi-species. In nature are found most often in pairs. longnose pairs vigorously defend their territories within the confines of an aquarium. This species is not very suitable for marine reef emerging whole. They grow to an adult length of 9 inches long. An aquarium with a minimum capacity of 75 gallons is recommended. It should also provide plenty of hiding places and wide open areas to swim in. These fish have a funny habit of swimming upside down near the water surface when they feel comfortable with the environment.

This is a carnivorous species, foraging. In the wild they use their elongated snouts to dig in the crevices of the rocks and coral formations in search of small invertebrates. Their diet consists mainly of worms tube included, feather dusters, fan, coconut and spaghetti worms.

In an aquarium setting you will want to provide them with a lot of live rock sandwiches between meals. They have been known to sting corals and sea urchins, in the absence of an adequate food supply. A well-fed longnose usually leave them alone.

This species may be reluctant to eat when first introduced in an aquarium. If that is the case, try tempting them with mysis or brine shrimp. Tubiflex and mosquito larvae can also encourage them to start feeding. A good trick to make them accept non-living food is by locking in cracks and crevices of the rocks to forage. Once they have been properly acclimated to life in captivity readily accept most prepared foods formulated for carnivorous marine species. To maintain body weight and in general and the force will have to feed your longnose two to three times a day.
